Register your interest today in The Macallan Reach. This exceptionally rare 81-year-old expression is the oldest whisky released by the distillery to date.
Distilled in 1940, this spirit aged through the hardships of the Second World War. This single malt is presented in a beautiful decanter that is cradled by a bronze sculpture of three hands. The hands in the sculpture represent Kirsteen Campbell, The Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker; Allan Schiach, the former Chairman of The Macallan and the grandson of Dr Allan Shiach who ran the distillery in 1940; and the distillery staff who worked tirelessly in 1940 to create this inspiring expression. The cabinet in which the sculpture is encased was crafted from wood from a fallen elm tree that was growing on The Macallan Estate in 1940.
On the nose, there is stewed plum, wood polish, and leather. The palate brings sugared ginger, bonfire smoke, and nutmeg before leading into the sumptuous, decadent, smoky finish. Just 288 decanters of this ultra-limited edition whisky were produced.
The Macallan has been one of the biggest players in the whisky industry for almost 200 years. The distillery is renowned for their exceptional understanding of the relationship between wood and spirit which has allowed them to consistently turn out expressions of the highest quality. Reach is yet another example of the innovative and refined produce that The Macallan is capable of creating.
