Akashi Single Malt is a powerful expression from the White Oak distillery based in near Kobe, Japan. Matured for 2 years in Spanish sherry casks and 3 years in hogsheads, this malt is un-chillfiltered and has no artificial colouring added.The nose is delicate with hints of camomile and sherry, the palate is rounded and subtle with vanilla and creamy notes, while the finish is sweet revealing vanilla and woody hints.
Originally a sake producer, White Oak was the first distillery in Japan to obtain a whisky licence in 1919, however, have only been making whisky in more recent years. Matured in three different types of casks: Spanish sherry oak, American oak and ex-bourbon casks. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 46%. (Bottle size 500ml)
Nose: Sweet, light iodine and clove.
Taste: Pleasant bitterness, full-bodied depth with spice, peat-like character and a hint of aniseed and candied ginger.
Finish: Light smokiness with some tannin.
