The product of two iconic northern Japanese distilleries (Yoichi and Miyagikyo) as well as a grain whisky produced by a Coffey still, The Nikka 12 Year Old is the perfect show case of the Japanese blenders’ skill and knowledge. By combining all these elements in perfect balance Nikka have created one exceptionally well-balanced whisky.
The sleek and refined nose gives hints of fruits, malted barley, bees wax and spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate is both lively and serene with strong flavours of dark chocolate and rich fruit cake filling the mouth. These flavours then mellow and allow for more soft honey and floral notes to make an appearance. The finish, at first, is a creamy coconut milk with hint of red berries such and strawberry and raspberry. Meanwhile the back of the mouth is marked with candied fruit and the slightest hint of tobacco.
